At Better Together, we’re helping families through the hardest seasons of their lives.
Not everyone has a table full of loved ones on Thanksgiving. Thousands of families across Florida are struggling alone to feed their kids and keep their homes—and they have nobody to call for help.
We know they have the strength to break cycles of poverty, struggle, and addiction. But they can’t do it alone. They need people like you.
Nobody knows this more than Shakayla. A few weeks ago, Shakayla was homeless with her 2-year-old son. She had just left an abusive relationship and was ready to turn her life around, but she faced a short jail sentence and had nobody to care for her son.
She turned to Better Together.
Shakayla worked hard with the support of our team and volunteers and in two weeks secured a job at Amazon and found a home. A host family cared for her son while she prepared for her sentencing. While Shakayla was away, caring volunteers filled her fridge, furnished her home, and surprised her with a coming home celebration. The judge spared her jail time, allowing her to go back to her son immediately.
Shakayla has already started to pay it forward, sharing her story, connecting families in need with our programs, and attending church with the family who hosted her son and who have already become close friends.
I’m grateful Shakayla never stopped trying to be a better mother to her son. I’m also thankful she didn’t have to do it alone. Because of your support, volunteers were there to walk with her every step of the way while she worked hard to create a better future for her son.
This giving season, I hope you’ll consider joining our Hopeful 100 Club. It costs $1,200 to host a child in our program. For $100 per month, you can keep a child out of foster care and give HOPE to a local family through the power of our programs. Every gift, no matter the size, will be matched up to $10,000, and we have a big goal of adding 100 monthly givers this holiday season.
Whether it’s a recurring or one-time donation, thank you. We couldn’t do this without you.
With Hope and Gratitude,
Megan Rose, CEO of Better Together
