Strong Families Tax Credit Program
Florida business taxpayers can earn dollar-for-dollar tax credits while preventing child abuse and strengthening Florida families.
The state’s Strong Families Tax Credit Program makes this possible for businesses that donate to qualified nonprofits.
Why Better Together?
- We were the driving force that passed the Strong Families Tax Credit. Better Together’s work inspired the legislation, and after lawmakers learned about our unrivaled results with families, it passed with bipartisan support.
- Florida has one of the largest foster care systems in the country and most children enter it due to preventable neglect, not physical abuse.
- We catch these families before they fall. Nearly all (98%) of the families we serve have no further involvement with child services.
- Our programs identify the root causes of a family’s struggle and provide them with the support and services they need to be successful long term.
- Studies have shown that Florida counties see a decrease in the need for foster care after we launch our programs in the area.
- We are 100% privately funded and 91% of our funding goes directly into programs, not overhead.

A Family Reunited, A Future Restored
Miquetta and Eric were homeless and struggling to make ends meet. They didn’t have anyone to call. If things didn’t turn around, they faced the possibility of losing their 2-year-old son Josiah to foster care. Miquetta took a leap of faith and reached out for help from Better Together. One of our volunteers agreed to host Josiah while volunteers helped them obtain housing and work.
The host family called Miquetta daily, and sent both parents pictures of Josiah doing activities, eating food, and spending time with their children. They made sure mom and dad could always contact their baby.
Sixty days later, Miquetta and Eric reunited with their son. Thanks to our program, they had the time to find work, get more focused, and make a plan for getting their children back into a loving and stable home. They still have an amazing relationship with each other, and the host family continues to be a source of support in their lives.
“Without Better Together, I really feel we would have lost our kids and our marriage would have ended,” Miquetta says. “We are grateful for the program.”
Join us. Together we can strengthen families and end the foster care crisis in Florida.
