At Better Together, we’ve seen it happen again and again. A church welcomes us in to share our mission—to build strong families and communities—and something shifts. Something stirs. A spark is lit.
A dad volunteers to help job seekers with their resumes at a Better Together job fair and rediscovers what it means to be the hands and feet of Jesus. After mentoring a single mom through Better Together, a woman begins volunteering in the children’s room during Sunday service.
Our own Devin McKnight said after spending time helping families with Better Together, he got more involved in his own church. He took three days off work this summer to lead a music class during his church’s vacation bible school—not out of obligation, but out of conviction.
Because when you get in the trenches, when you show up for real people with real needs, it changes your perspective on what it means to serve.
“When I started sitting at the table with single moms, helping them figure out how to keep the lights on, or delivering diapers after a storm—it reshaped everything for me,” Devin said. “I saw what it really means to be the Church.”
That’s the beauty of this ministry. It doesn’t pull people out of your church—it gives them a reason to lean in. It doesn’t compete with your programs—it brings them to life.
Our Better Families and Better Jobs programs equip churches to walk alongside their neighbors in need. When your congregation sees the needs in their own neighborhood—and the role they can play in the solution—it becomes impossible to look away. It becomes personal. Purposeful. Powerful.
