Employer Spotlight: Kane’s Furniture
One of the most powerful moments at a Better Together job fair is when an employer and a job seeker meet face-to-face and realize that a new opportunity might be just around the corner.
For Joy Gauvin and Heather Marshall of Kane’s Furniture, those moments have turned into real success stories.
“This is our fourth career fair that we’ve attended with Better Together, and we’ve had tremendous success,” Joy shared at a job fair in the Tampa Bay area. “We’ve met a lot of great candidates here, and we’re signing up for more coming up.”
Meaningful connections
Those connections have led to new team members. At a previous job fair, Heather met a candidate who is now part of Kane’s delivery team.
“The delivery assistant that I was able to hire through Better Together still works with our delivery team at our Pinellas Park location,” Heather said. “He’s training and doing really fabulous, and we’re really excited that he joined our team.”
Stories like this are exactly what Better Together job fairs are designed to create—meaningful employment connections that help the employer fill their talent needs and help our neighbors find meaningful work and stability.
In person makes a difference
Both Joy and Heather have backgrounds in recruiting, and they say the opportunity to meet candidates in person at the job fairs is important.
“It gives us an opportunity to really engage with people, really hear their story, their experience, and really just get to know them a little bit better than just seeing an application online or seeing a resume out there,” Heather said.
Job fairs also allow employers to connect with many candidates at once while getting a sense of each person’s personality, motivation, and potential—things that don’t always show up on paper.
A shared mission
Kane’s Furniture has made our job fairs a regular part of their recruiting strategy, but for Joy and Heather, it’s about more than hiring.
“We’re really just passionate about people finding their home, their good fit—a job that really makes them happy,” Heather said. “We love to see those success stories and placing people in a job that gives them that financial support that they need, but also brings them joy to their life.”
Encouraging others
Joy and Heather continue to attend as many Better Together job fairs as they can throughout the state.
“We encourage any employers to come and attend these events,” she said. “We have met the greatest, most qualified candidates here, and the team here is amazing. They’re always here to help the candidate, which is why we’re here as well.”
That shared commitment—to help people find meaningful work and a place to belong—is what makes partnerships like this so powerful.
Through employers like Kane’s Furniture, Better Together job fairs are opening doors to new opportunities, strengthening families, and helping communities flourish.
