Laura Karpinski lost her job in April when the company she worked for closed its doors.
Laura relied on income from the job to help provide for her husband, AJ, who has Parkinson’s disease. Laura has cared for AJ for 20 years.
But Laura didn’t allow herself to become discouraged.
When she saw a Facebook post about The Breeze Church in North Fort Myers hosting a Better Together job fair, her hope bloomed.
Laura was one of over 380 job seekers who met with 22 employers and 14 resource partners on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
When Jordan Westendorf, of A Perfect Choice Home Care, listened to Laura’s story, she got goosebumps.
Jordan’s grandfather, Bob, endured dementia before passing away six months ago. Jordan understood Laura’s heart for caring for people. After interviewing Laura, Jordan offered her a job as a caregiver.
“She (Jordan) saw something good in me, and I’m happy about that,” said Laura as she left to go care for AJ.
