A testimony of grace

Several members of First Presbyterian Church in Bradenton waited after service on Sunday to meet Greg Davenport.

Greg, a single father of two, shared his testimony during the service, recounting how the grace of God, his grandmother’s love, and his children saved him from difficult situations. He stood tall and spoke with warmth, his heart infused in every word.

Greg also shared how Better Together came alongside his family when they needed it most. The relationship began a year ago at one of our Parents’ Night Out events and grew into mentorship. A volunteer host family also temporarily cared for Greg’s children during his hospitalization for a heart condition.

“From the very start, Jessica accepted me for who I am, what I’ve been through, and who God is molding me into becoming,” said Greg of family support manager Jessica Braemer. “Better Together has given me such a sense of community.”

Jessica and volunteer Shayna Mitchell also shared information about our family and job programs with members, several of whom signed up to volunteer with us.

After speaking with members, Greg joined Shayna and Jessica outside the church. They reflected with gratitude on the moments they just experienced as Greg’s children hugged.
