Putting love into action
The church has the power to serve an impactful role in strengthening families, reducing poverty, and lifting up neighbors by providing meaningful work opportunities through the Better Together workforce ministry.
Studies show unemployment can lead to:
- Poverty
- Strained relationships
- Poor health
- Housing stress
- Disparities for children
Nationwide Day of Second Chances job fairs put the Gospel into action. They are like no other job fair. In addition to including employers who see the value in second chances, they also provide free job coaching, resources and a celebratory atmosphere.
What other churches are saying
“Participating in the Nationwide Day of Second Chances has allowed our church to serve in a way we haven't before. It has shown us the power of second chances and has given our volunteers and team a tangible way to reflect the many second chances we experience through God's grace.”
— Melanie Benner
Missions Director, BridgePoint Church, St. Petersburg, Florida
“The Nationwide Day of Second Chances job fairs do much more than offer a handout —they offer a hand up.”
— Hanna B
Deaconess of Community Development, Anacostia River Church, Washington, D.C.
“These have been wonderful events that have both helped people find employment, a great time to also share the message of Jesus Christ with them and offer prayer for any needs. It is so great to have groups who will come together to help our community experience the love of Christ.”
— Ed Thompson
Pastor, Breadbreakers Church, Belleview, Florida
“I've been thoroughly impressed with the Better Jobs team that helps keep planning on track and the efforts they put in to ensure the day is a success. The model that Better Together developed allows for anyone regardless of history or experience to find meaningful employment.”

Meet the Organization Behind the Event
Nationwide Day of Second Chances is run by Better Together, a volunteer-driven, privately funded nonprofit that builds strong families and communities by providing meaningful relationships, short-term care for children, mentoring, and work opportunities.
When a parent needs support, due to homelessness, a medical emergency, or other crisis, Better Together volunteer host families provide a safe, loving home for the children short term, while staff and mentors empower the parents to secure employment, housing and other needs.
Key to helping families is meaningful work. Better Together’s workforce program provides opportunity for all job seekers through relational job fairs and volunteer job coaches. The ministry has served more than 38,000 job seekers in 24 states.

Frequently Asked Questions
A first-time job fair takes about 12 weeks to plan and an estimated 5-10 hours of work per week. We recommend having 4-6 core volunteers helping with the planning process. These core volunteers will handle the following tasks: project lead, employer recruitment, marketing support, resource and community partner outreach, and volunteer coordinator. We recommend a minimum of 20 day-of volunteers (this number will increase based on the anticipated number of job seekers).
While it’s always hard to predict results, we can say that 2024’s statistics show the average church welcomed 165 job seekers and 8 employers, had 20 hires on the spot, 77 interviews scheduled/conducted, and 35 job coaching connections.
The training happens over 2 days in a city where we are hosting a traditional community job fair in one of the local churches. This allows the first day to be more “classroom” and high-level training, with the second day being more hands-on and personal, as you’ll get to see a live job fair in action for yourself.
Alternatively, we do have options for remote-only training, but you wouldn’t be able to see a job fair in-person with this path. But it is available.
Of course! The easiest way is to sign up for one of our upcoming virtual information sessions to see if this is right for your church.
