At Better Together, we often say it takes a village to raise a child. Parenting is hard work, and parents are at their best when they have a community of support around them, someone to ask for advice, someone to give mom or dad a short reprieve, someone to call in times of crisis.

As we help families build their support systems, we’re also building a community of partners so that we can better serve families in Florida.

This summer, Better Together and the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office entered into a Memorandum of Understanding that allows the two organizations to work more closely to serve families in the region. It allows us to exchange necessary information and puts protocols into place to help in that exchange.

“As the Sheriff of DeSoto County and a law enforcement professional with almost 39 years of service to the public, I am pleased to see and refer where applicable the services of Better Together,” says DeSoto County Sheriff James F. Potter. “The positive depth of support provided by Better Together for those in crisis is of great importance for all of us in our community.”

Better Together has similar agreements with the state Department of Children and Families and community organizations such as The Shelter for Abused Women & Children, Project HELP, Healthy Start, Fun Time Early Childhood Academy and St. Matthew’s House.

“We are grateful for our community partnerships,” says Isis LaRose, Better Together’s Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Market Development. “They serve an important role in helping families in crisis, and these formal agreements allow us to work more closely while protecting the children and parents in our program.”
