Help families impacted by hurricanes

Families remain. So do their needs.

Paper roses lay scattered on the ground, and mounds of treasured belongings reached skyward. The pungent smell of mold warned of impending sickness. Winds blew uncertainty through hallways and into flooded apartments, once occupied by families who fled Hurricane Milton.

The majority of families have not returned to the Standard Apartments in Clearwater. The ones who came back had no other place to go. Area landlords are demanding a rent of $3,000 for apartments that once rented at $1,800, which is too much for families who already had too little.

“We don’t have a lot of food,” a mother told Better Together’s Kayla, Miranda, and Madison recently as she waited for her kids’ school bus to arrive. Miranda comforted her as she shared her story. Kayla noted her family’s deeper needs. Madison hustled to get food and water.

The team met more parents in the complex, many of whom were looking to pick up second jobs. Kayla shared information about our job coaches, upcoming job fairs, and mentorship program.

After they finished canvassing, Kayla, Miranda, and Madison agreed. The need remains.

Please join us in helping families.
