Doing Good Together in North Central Florida

Volunteers, donors, and church and community partners joined us for the Doing Good Together reception Tuesday, May 16, at Church of Hope in Ocala.

The event is our way of saying thank you to all who play a role in our mission. Each supporter is worth more than gold to us and our families. Some have hosted a child in a safe environment while the parents work to stabilize their family. Some have been an advocate for someone in crisis, an ear to listen, experience to pull from. Some gather supplies and resources. Some help job seekers connect to employment. You give your time or money. You give your prayer.

Every year at our receptions, we recognize supporters who have gone above and beyond to help families.  The 2023 honorees are:

Host Family of the Year

The Mosley Family

Katie and Kevin Mosley, Better Together’s first host family in the North Central Florida region, not only stepped up to host a child in a parent’s time of need, but they mentored mom and remain a part of her and her son’s community.

Mentor of the Year

Dr. Kimberly Lamb

Dr. Kimberly Lamb visited with a mom every weekend to encourage her and assist her in reaching her goals. They developed a strong relationship that has been an important support for the mom on her recovery journey.

Super Volunteer of the Year

Greta Blanton

Greta was the first to raise her hand and volunteer at our very first Parents’ Night Out in Ocala. When a host family took in a child, she took them a homemade meal. These are just a couple of the examples of what makes Greta a super volunteer.

Church Partner of the Year

Church of Hope

Church of Hope in Ocala was the first church in the region to partner with Better Together and has been instrumental in making our expansion into the North Central Florida region a success. At our very first presentation at the church, dozens of people signed up to volunteer, giving the program a solid base of volunteers from the start.

Community Partner of the Year

Helping Hands Ocala

Helping Hands has introduced to Better Together many families in the region who would benefit from our services. Helping Hands has also been a great support to families served by Better Together by providing clients with housing and other resources.

Department of Children and Families Partner of the Year

Karri Brookins

Karri Brookins goes above and beyond, taking great satisfaction in connecting families with community resources like Better Together.

Doug Campbell Generosity Award

Ken Daley and Tri-Eagle Sales

Ken Daley, president of Tri-Eagle Sales, championed the expansion of Better Together into North Central Florida. Tri-Eagle Sales donated the funding needed to launch the program into the area.

Thank you to our generous title sponsor, Tillman & Associates Engineering LLC, and our silver sponsor, Fidelity Manufacturing.

In-kind donations provided by Tri-Eagle Sales and Big Lee’s Barbecue.

Special thanks to The Gathering Cafe for the desserts and to the children of the YMCA for making our beautiful floral centerpieces.
